Buying a Used Cat 259D: What to Check
Listed Cat 259D units on MachineryLots average about 1,727 hours and range from 684 to 2,492 hours. Hours matter less than service history — a well-maintained high-hour machine often outlasts a neglected low-hour one, so ask for maintenance records and a recent inspection.
- Confirm the hour meter reading against the service records
- Inspect the engine bay and hydraulics for leaks or fresh paint hiding them
- Check tires, tracks, cutting edges and other wear parts for remaining life
- Test every hydraulic function and verify that included attachments work
- Ask which attachments, warranty and dealer inspection are included in the price
- Request the serial number and verify there is no outstanding lien
