    Tips for Selling Used Equipment

Dealers, are you looking to level up your equipment listings?

Here are a few things that actually make a difference when selling used equipment.

First, do your research. Equipment that is priced competitively will sell two to five times faster. If you are too high, buyers will skip right over it. If you are in line with the market, you will get calls.

Pricing strategy matters over time as well. If a piece has been sitting for 3 to 6 weeks with little to no activity, it might be worth adjusting the price. Dead inventory does not help anyone. It ties up cash and space, and the longer it sits, the harder it is to move.

Clean the machine before listing it. A clean machine shows better and builds confidence right away. At the same time, make sure your photos accurately represent the equipment. Trying to make a machine look better than it is, or only taking photos from certain angles, does not help. The buyer will come see it in person and immediately notice the difference. That hurts trust and can kill the deal.

Take lots of photos and include videos. Show all sides of the machine and do not skip the underside. Buyers want to know what they are getting before they make the trip.

Be upfront with information. The more details you provide, the more likely a buyer is to reach out. Even if there are defects, include them. Buyers understand used equipment. Hiding issues only creates problems later.

Make sure you include the basics like hours, kilometers, and previous owner information. Was it used by a landscaper, a construction company, or a municipality? That context helps buyers make a decision faster.

Respond quickly to inquiries and be transparent in your communication. Buyers are often reaching out to multiple dealers at the same time. The ones who respond first, and provide clear and honest answers, are usually the ones who win the deal and move inventory faster.

Finally, list your equipment in multiple places. Your own website is important, but it is not enough on its own. Platforms like Machinery Lots and other listing sites help drive more traffic. It takes a lot of impressions to generate a lead, so the more exposure you have, the better.

At the end of the day, it comes down to trust and visibility. Give buyers clear, honest information and make it easy for them to find your listings.
